Does God use Microsoft Outlook?

January 9, 2007

No, probably not! But, He certainly is the Master of time management. Look at this verse I was reading this morning in Exodus 9:5. The context is God’s sending the ten plagues upon Egypt. And the Lord appointed a set time, saying, Tomorrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land Exodus 9:5.
As I continued reading the following chapters of Exodus, I was impressed how often similar “time management language” appeared. The Lord has appointed a set time for everything. If we could only get that through our heads! He has appointed a set time to answer my prayer, to instruct me in the next step I am to take, to speak to my friend about spiritual life — the Lord has appointed a set time for everything.

Setting the Lord before me

January 9, 2007

My mind tells me it’s still Monday; the date stamp has already switched to Tuesday, January 9th. This is typical of Mondays, probably my roughest day with non-stop meetings. So, how does one press on? Here’s a passage I shared with the staff early this morning. “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope” Psalm 16:8-9. I find that throughout the day it is essential to continually and constantly “set the Lord before my face.” The promised result is emotional and physical strength.
How does one do this? I suppose the practical techniques are limited only to your own creativity. In my own life, I find that frequent prayer breaks, moments of quiet solitude or reflection on a memory verse are just a few of the ways I am learning to practice putting the Lord before my face. Right now, my flesh is calling me to rest in hope. Good night!
