¡Escuchá Vos!
¿Cómo qué voy a pasar un tiempito en Chelandia sin darles un cariñoso abrazo y beso en el castellano? ¡Claro!
Seriamente, esta conferencia juvenil, CIMA 2007, fue algo increíble. No predominaron los argentinos, porque tan solo 200 de los mil presentes eran de aquí. Había jóvenes de todo el cono sur y de varios grupos e iglesias. Todo fue de primera clase. La música y alabanza fueron muy, pero muy juvenil, y me dio gran gozo ver a todos ellos entusiasmados en gran manera alabando al Señor. También escucharon los mensajes con una atención total. Con la excepción de tu servidor, todos los oradores eran de primer plano. Me gustó mucho la doctrina muy sana, centrada y profunda y los chicos absorbiéndolo todo gustosamente. Yo sé que muchos tienen miedo a cosas nuevas y contemporáneas, pero allí no pasó nada raro ni fuera de orden. Además me agradó su énfasis en la iglesia local, la oración y la vida devocional.
El organizador es Thomas Vögelin, misionero alemán y director del Centro de Entrenamiento Cristiano (CEC). El hermano tiene enorme visión, un corazón para con los jóvenes y el cumplimiento de la Gran Comisión. CEC realizará otros eventos para jóvenes en otros lugares y habrá otro CIMA en 2010. ¡Haz tus planes!
The Intentional Tourist
I’ve been through Buenos Aires before, but I’ve never had time to look around. That’s a shame because this is a fascinating, beautiful and very sophisticated city. After a week of hard work, I decided to do what I tell others to do – I decided to take the day off and play tourist. Buenos Aires has a great subway system and I was able to move around and see several of her many famous and varied neighborhoods. It is much like New York City in size, about 11 million, and a crazy mosaic of people.
Now listen, y’all, you won’t believe this, but I saw something today that I had to capture on my cell phone camera. If you know me, you know I don’t do photos, but I couldn’t resist this one. The neighborhood where I was roaming was an old Jewish neighborhood. I had heard for years about the significant Jewish population here. Walking down the street seeing all the orthodox Jewish men with their hats and beards made me think I was in Manhattan. There was this amazing Art Deco shopping mall (another story) and I decided to grab a cup of coffee. The mall is very big and has three McDonald’s — two normal and one kosher! That’s right! This is the only Kosher Micky D’s outside of Israel. I would have compromised my convictions and eaten there just to say I had, but this is Saturday and they are, of course, closed! Now, don’t you wish you were here?
