Hi! This is my chance to chat with you about anything that pops into my mind. That means it is usually unedited and unpolished, just like conversations with friends ought to be. So, grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's talk!

Jeff -- I attend Grace Church in Overland Park, and I'm really looking forward to hearing you speak there tonight at our "Journey" event. I really enjoyed your article on Sarah Palin. I just recently wrote an article about her on my blog also. www.daveyhoward.com

Thanks for the postings Dr. Jeff. As a simple observer, student, and in my 20's here is my observation about what is going on politically and socially. I based my argument on Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”…. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Observations:
1.	We have created pseudo change by focusing our attention on adjectives like the first “black presidential” nominee and “first women” vp nominee. Based on Dr. King we will arrive to true change when an individual is not judged by the color of their skin (or gender) but by the content of their character. Recent talk about Obama and Palin is not based on character but rather color or gender. For example, “The first black Presidential nominee”…
2.	Titles such as black or African-American are subjective. Is Obama truly black, no he is brown. These descriptive titles again leads us down a path that is not based on facts or change. In fact, studies have shown that as we focus more on adjectives like these we create more divisions.
3.	I believe Dr. King had it right that true change will lead us back to what this country was founded upon. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal” When we still acknowledge someone’s accomplishments by first stating “First black” or “First women” we no longer “hold the truths to be self-evident”. Instead we prefix an individual’s accomplishment or character with an adjective, which is usually inaccurate.
4.	Change, that is good, will only come about when we focus our attention on someone’s character and judgment. Obama and Palin should be examined based upon what they have done, who they are, moral standards, and their judgments on issues that relate to our Constitution. This is what Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” Speech was about and this is what our Country and Constitution was founded upon.

No matter who wins this election as Christians we should be praying for them and respect their roles. It is quite frustrating to hear Christians bash our current President but yet have not spent one second praying for him and his family. If we want true change then maybe Christians should start there, praying.

I was wanting to call you yesterday but I just couldn't find a spare minute. I kept talking to the kids all day about what an exciting opportunity they have to see history be written right before them. Very cool.
