No sé cuántas veces he leído por completo la Biblia, pero el Año Nuevo me encuentra leyéndola de nuevo. Esta mañana estoy leyendo en Génesis. Noé envía una paloma para ver si se las aguas del Diluvio se habían retirado. La primera vez la paloma regresó al arca indicando que todavía no era tiempo para salir del arca. La segunda vez regresa la paloma con una hoja de olivo, símbolo de paz, y es la confirmación para Noé que  la paz de Dios ya reinaba donde se ejecutaba el juicio de Dios poco antes.

Envió también de sí una paloma,  para ver si las aguas se habían retirado de sobre la faz de la tierra. Y no halló la paloma donde sentar la planta de su pie,  y volvió a él al arca,  porque las aguas estaban aún sobre la faz de toda la tierra.  Entonces él extendió su mano,  y tomándola,  la hizo entrar consigo en el arca. Esperó aún otros siete días,  y volvió a enviar la paloma fuera del arca. Y la paloma volvió a él a la hora de la tarde;  y he aquí que traía una hoja de olivo en el pico;  y entendió Noé que las aguas se habían retirado de sobre la tierra. (Génesis 8:8-11)

A la misma vez estoy comenzando la lectura de Mateo, específicamente el capítulo 3, cuando me llama la atención la misma figura de la paloma. En Mateo 3 Juan ve una paloma descender sobre Jesús que es confirmación de que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.

Observen los paralelos entre los dos pasajes. Noé y Juan el Bautista son profetas. Ambos viven un tiempo de oscuridad espiritual. En ambos casos es una paloma que señala que la paz de Dios ha llegado. Jesús es la paz de Dios (Efesios 2:14).

También en las vidas de todos nosotros que hemos depositado nuestra fe en Cristo Jesús, nuestra oscuridad se levanta con la llegada del Espíritu Santo, apropiadamente simbolizado por la paloma. Ahora, no vivimos bajo juicio en la oscuridad. Tenemos paz con Dios por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo (Romanos 5:1) y la paz de Dios que sobrepasa todo entendimiento (Filipenses 4: 7).

¿Tienes esta paz para con Dios? Si no, es una buena época para transformar tu vida por medio de confesar tu pecado a Dios y comprometerte a ser su seguidor. Si eres seguidor de Dios pero no tienes la paz que sobrepasa todo conocimiento, el principio del año también es un buen momento para llenarte del Espíritu Santo sometiéndote por completo a él.

God´s Peace in the New Year

I don’t know how many times I have read through the Bible, but the New Year finds me reading it anew. This morning I am reading Genesis. Noah sends out a dove to see if the Flood waters have subsided from the earth. The first time, the dove returned to the ark indicating that it was still not time to leave the ark. The second time the dove returns with an olive branch in his beak, the symbol of peace, and this is the confirmation to Noah that God’s peace now reigns where judgment had not long before taken place.

Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. (Genesis 8:8-11)

At the same time I am beginning to read through Matthew, specifically chapter 3, when this same figure of the dove caught my attention. In Matthew 3 John the Baptist sees a dove descend upon Jesus confirming that Jesus is the Son of God.

Observe the parallels between the two passages. Noah and John are prophets. Both live in a time of spiritual darkness. In both cases it is a dove that signals the arrival of God’s peace on earth. Jesus is God’s peace (Ephesians 2:14).

In the lives of all of us who have placed our faith in Jesus Christ, our darkness is also lifted by the coming of God’s Spirit, appropriately symbolized by the figure of the dove. Now, we no longer live under the darkness of judgment. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1), and we have the peace of God that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Do you have this peace with God? This would be a great time to transform your life by confessing your sin to God and committing to become his follower. If you are already his follower but do not yet have that peace of God that passes all understanding, this New Year is also a great time to be filled with the Spirit of God by submitting yourself to him in everything.
