Finally!

July 11, 2010

I woke up about 3:30 this morning wanting it to be time for the church to assemble together. Were little kids this excited? From what I saw this morning, I think so. I heard several fun stories from parents about how thrilled their kids were.

My favorite story, and one that I told to begin each service: It’s early before the first service, and a mother and her little girl are coming into the new building. Seeing the little girls wide eyes, the mother says, “Now, just remember that this is NOT Heaven.”

The little girl looks up at her mother and says, “But Mom, this IS Heaven for kids!”

My list of favorite things from this morning:

  • Watching the reactions of people as they came in and looked around. Listening to them as they tried to explain what they were feeling and yet were at loss for words.
  • Seeing the line at the coffee shop.
  • Seeing people just mill around, converse and interact, just like this was really the living room of the church – that was the plan!
  • The same little kids who broke ground with me over a year ago turn in their hard hats and shovels and lead us in prayer.
  • Singing the Revelation Song in the middle of the “sermon” to the accompaniment of smoke and banners.
  • God’s own personal visit this morning with a torrential storm, lightning, thunder, a brief power outage and what seemed like a foot of rain.

Here’s my list of the most important take aways from this morning:

  • Don’t forget the connection to The Mission.
  • This is not the end; it’s the beginning of the next phase of The Mission. This is not time to relax; it’s time to focus on ministering to the people that God brings across our paths. This is not the time to coast; this is the time to push forward.
  • If God has done all of this for us, he must have quite a plan for us in The Mission. He has give to us; now it’s time for us to give back to him.

How about you? Any stories, pictures or observations to share?

    Rodger,

Here is Leon Hatt’s response to the pinch factor — Jeff,
Per your blog and your reply. The chair lift in the new foyer has the new arm on the lift door that was changed by the manufacture to eliminate the pinch point. (See first two pictures). The gate on the lift by the office (the old lift), does not but a modified arm is on order to replace the arm and make it safe like the new lift. (See last two pictures).

    Thanks! Leon Hatt

So how goofy am I? When they showed the video and the kids going out with their shovels and you announced they were going to the same spot they broke ground on three years ago, I was thinking “oh boy they are gonna get wet!” imagine my surprise when the groundbreaking spot is now in the lobby – duh! :-)

PURE AWESOMENESS!!! We walked in and Hailey lit up! I have to say although it is a new building which as you always stress is just a building the energy and spirit felt sooooo good. Everyone was so excited and fellowshipping. It was great to be amongst Gods children. I love coming to KCBT always feel so good and welcome, basically at home but geez now I don’t want to leave (the bldg I mean). I tell you what if you put hot dogs in you will give QT up the street a run for their money ha ha. The best part is the building is so inviting to the young people which its awesome in itself. (Wait have I said awesome enough in this comment). I am thoroughly impressed. I too took several pictures and videos and my family and friends were wowed as well.
Oh and Hailey did say that she hopes that Pastor Jeff aka the Candyman got to go down the slide because in her words…”it was aaaawwweeessooommmmmeeeeee and I think he would really like it!” I said ok Hailey Im sure he went down head first. lol

I was wowed. I really wanted to be a kid this past Sunday! Took a video for Elisha to see and he was wowed too! He said “Is this KCBT?!?!” Wonderful work, team!

Sunday was nothing short of perfect in every way! From God adding His own perfect light and sound effects to Revelation Song to watching many enjoy the perfect cup of coffee (me included). God’s perfect timing on the brief power outage that occurred between first and second service as to not disrupt our praise and worship to Him that made this all possible. The raising up of many generations from Mr. and Mrs. House to all the generations yet to come throught the doors. Isaiah 58:12 popped into my head just then. I also saw God’s perfection in the KCBT staff making sure that everything was taken care of including directing some to finding the nearest restroom! God’s perfection is amzing to observe as He sent the rain to wash the last of the construction dust from the building.

The dedication was phenomenal. However, at the risk of sounding like a whiner, I would like to lend some positive feedback. As my mother (who is physically challenged) and I used the elevator at the main entrance I observed two problems. The automatic door that allows entrance to the elevator opens directly in front of the entrance to the children’s slide, blocking the entance to both the slide and the elevator. The kiddies can’t line up for the slide (or even gain access) nor can the folks gain access to the elevator. Also, the mechanism on the elevator door has pinch points on the very top that likely could rip a finger off. I did safety inspections in the US Navy and as a production supervisor for many years, and I would immediately lock and tagout this equipment as out of commision until revisions can be made. Otherwise, I was impressed exponentially. Please let me know if I should have mom enter and leave another way. Thank you, and I hope I haven’t offended any one from the design crew. Love in Christ, RB

Rodger, Thanks so much for your comments. Nothing is worse than a physically-challenged person feeling insecure. Not our goal! I would just urge you not to make a judgment from opening Sunday. For one, slide use will decrease with familiarity, and the lift will not be used constantly. Second, there will be greeters to assist with directing traffic in that area. Finally, the lift itself has passes numerous and rigorous and detailed inspections. In our regulation crazed society, that’s pretty impressive in itself! :-) Finally, if you feel better about it, you can always park in a special needs (green) spots on the north side of the building and enter on the same floor. Hope that helps!

I am sure this was a great celebration, I know it! I wish I could have been there, but in the distance I rejoice with you all. Felicidades y que Dios los siga bendiciendo para que puedan ser de muchísima bendición para todos los que cruzan por esas puertas cada semana. And someday soon I’ll come and celebrate in person. Do you serve Chai Tea? May the Blessings keep showering down on my KCBT family. With love, me.

In October 2010 I’ll have been a member of KCBT for 39 yrs. Needless to say I’ve seen a number of building expansions, but this one takes the cake. I walked in this morning and was so taken back by what God had done, I promptly lost my since of direction and couldn’t find my way to the main auditorium. I actually had to ask someone for directions. After taking a tour of the facility and chatting with friends and visitors (coffee in hand), I finally made my way to the main auditorium. What a fantastic job everyone has done to create such a unique place for our kids to come to know Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him. All I can say is WOW!

    Jeff,
This morning was wonderful. So joyful, I am always so excited to come to KCBT every time I go. It feels like home and we treat it that way. A friend asked me this week when I invited her to the focus gathering after church next weekend “am I welcome there?, I do not go there regularly” I said,” Honey of COURSE you are welcome here, it is Gods green earth and you are always welcome here” :) Very excited for this morning and for what god has in store. God Bless see you at KCBT :)
