Hi! This is my chance to chat with you about anything that pops into my mind. That means it is usually unedited and unpolished, just like conversations with friends ought to be. So, grab a cup of coffee or tea and let's talk!

Sweet! Great choices all! You Say Tomato may be a counter order, but it is so wonderfully goofy, eclectic - whatever! The food, the neighborhood - it all works!

Jeff, what a wonderful topic. I'm with you, location matters. Must have the feel of the city, no chains, no suburbian strip malls and must be the original.
Here are a few of my favorites:

For great Mediterranean & Greek cuisine, a quaint atmosphere and outdoor seating. You can even bring your own wine.
Aladdin Cafe
3903 Wyoming St
Kansas City, MO 64121

For good pan fried dumplings and a great tea selection.
Blue Koi
1803 West 39th Street, Kansas City, MO

It's an order at the counter situation, but worth it. Sunday brunch, Yumm!
You say tomato
2801 Holmes Street, Kansas City,

Always good vegetarian food.
Located on the plaza in the basement of the Unity building.
Try the tomato soup.
Eden Alley
707 West 47th Street, Kansas City, MO

Pot Pie indeed! Has to be on the list. Aixios, already mentioned, is a personal fav and I've taken a fair number of guests there over the years. Excellent. Avenues Bistro? Another personal treasure. Love it and have also taken guests there for a KC experience. The new place in Mission Farms is wonderful and beautiful, but I'd probably still take most guests to the original in Brookside just for the complete package of the Brookside experience. Thai Place Westport? I've got to check it out. Hear it's good. So many good places! So little time and money.

Yep. Peach Tree is a peach! I only wish they would have made it in the 18th and Vine Jazz District or downtown. That would be a sweet spot! The original is home cooking deluxe and a great place to get a running start on a heat attack, but location is part of the package and I'd love a bit more of an urban setting for guests - or at least interesting. Thanks!

NO argument on the wonders of Waldo Pizza! But, I'm thinking guests and conversation as part of the package. Not sure this is the best place for conversation, though any pizza fan would not care. Also, the neighborhood meets my criteria as Waldo is true funky.NOw, I've got to get back and try the jalapeno bacon cream cheese on cheddar. OMG! I'll have to run about 30 miles first.

Thai Place - heard it's great and I need to check it out. Thanks!

Wabash in ES is indeed good! Been there. Unless we were out that way, it's probably a bit far for most guests. I'm sure Kyoto must be good, but a typical strip center setting draws a yawn - looking for the total package. But, I'll keep Kyoto in mind for my own personal edification. Thanks!

Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse at 135th & Metcalf in OP is good. If you don't mind a little drive for some BBQ, check out The Wabash & Blues Garden in Excelsior Springs. Its located in an old train depot, across the street from the Elms Hotel. Apparently, they were voted to have the best ribs in KC!
